Un año más el IQOG se suma a los actos del 11F visibilizando el papel de la mujer en la ciencia
Investigadoras del Instituto acuden al Colegio Fundación Caldeiro con motivo de la celebración del Día Internacional de la Mujer y la Niña en la Ciencia y la Tecnología

Nuestras investigadoras Ana Gómez y Belén Gómara, acompañadas de Dianelis Toledo (del Instituto de Catálisis y Petroleoquímica del CSIC), visitaron ayer el Colegio Fundación Caldeiro de Madrid con motivo del 11 de febrero, Día Internacional de la Mujer y la Niña en la Ciencia.

Las investigadoras compartieron su experiencia profesional con los alumnos de 3º de la ESO y con su charla “Tres científicas del CSIC: de la universidad a liderar tu propio grupo de investigación” trataron de inspirar y promover la participación de las mujeres y las niñas en la ciencia y la tecnología.

A través de estas actividades divulgativas, se ha acercado la investigación del IQOG a los más jóvenes, visibilizando el papel de la mujer en la química y la ciencia.

News from Antarctica
Dr. Juan Muñoz-Arnanz participates in the development of the XXXVII SPANISH ANTARCTIC CAMPAIGN as part of the project titled Persistent Organic Carbon in the Oceans and Antarctica (PANTOC; PID2021-127769NB-I00) and sends us a brief update of his scientific adventure.

 

The objective of the project is to study the presence and distribution of anthropogenic organic contaminants in different Antarctic environmental compartments, as well as their possible degradation by Antarctic bacteria and microorganisms.

 

Our colleague Dr. Juan Muñoz-Arnanz sends us these impressive photos of the natural environment of Antarctica, with views from both sea and land.

It is evident that the opportunity to conduct scientific research in such an environment is a unique one. Among many other activities, air samples have been collected at Mount Reina Sofia, the mostly ice-free peak rising to 275 meters on Hurd Peninsula, Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands (left). Samples of sea-surface microlayer have also been collected, where the degradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons by bacteria was previously observed (see publication: https://doi.org/10.3389/fmicb.2022.907265) (center). Additionally, various samples of amphipods, krill, and other animal species present in this magnificent natural environment have been collected (right).

Researchers from IQOG and IDAEA participate in the XXXVII SPANISH ANTARCTIC CAMPAIGN to study the impact of persistent anthropogenic carbon.
IQOG-CSIC and IDAEA-CSIC researchers are currently part of the XXXVII Spanish Antarctic Campaign. The project PANTOC focuses on studying the impact of anthropogenic organic carbon on the Southern Ocean's carbon cycle. Researchers, split into two groups, are collecting environmental samples and conducting in-situ experiments in Antarctica until February. They will share their scientific activities through live streaming on Instagram (@pantoc_project) on January 19th (in Spanish) and February 9th (in Catalan), aiming to engage students and the public.

 

Dr. Juan Muñoz-Arnanz from IQOG-CSIC and researchers from IDAEA-CSIC, participate at the XXXVII Spanish Antarctic campaign, as members of the PANTOC project. This project aims to study the impact of anthropogenic organic carbon on the Southern Ocean's biogeochemical carbon cycle.

 

The first group of researchers from the PANTOC Project arrived last Saturday, January 13, at the Juan Carlos I Antarctic Base, on Livingston Island, where they will remain until the beginning of February. During the month of February, the second group of researchers will arrive at the Gabriel de Castilla Base, on Deception Island, where they will remain until the end of February.

 

The main objective is to collect environmental samples for quantifying different groups of pollutants in the ocean, lakes, air, snow, and krill. Additionally, the researchers will conduct in-situ experiments to analyze potential biodegrading bacteria in the microbial communities of Antarctica.

PANTOC project researchers will actively share their scientific activities via Instagram. They will be live streaming from the Antarctic Bases through their account @pantoc_project to address all questions related to the campaign, Antarctica, and their scientific research. These interactive sessions are intended for primary and secondary students as well as the general public, scheduled for January 19th at 12:00h CET time (in Spanish), and February 9th at 12:00h CET time (in Catalan).

Proceso de selección de Dirección del IQOG-CSIC. Nuevo plazo.
La Junta del Instituto IQOG-CSIC de fecha 20 de septiembre de 2022 acuerda abrir un nuevo plazo para la presentación de candidaturas a la Dirección del instituto IQOG-CSIC, que estará abierto hasta el día 31 de octubre de 2022.

La Junta del Instituto IQOG-CSIC de fecha 20 de septiembre de 2022 acuerda abrir un nuevo plazo para la presentación de candidaturas a la Dirección del instituto IQOG-CSIC, que estará abierto hasta el día 31 de octubre de 2022. De acuerdo con la Norma de Institutos del CSIC de 29 de noviembre de 2021, puede optar al puesto personal investigador doctor de reconocido prestigio que posea la idoneidad y la cualificación profesional adecuada para el ejercicio de las funciones inherentes al cargo, pudiendo ser personal propio perteneciente al CSIC o personal externo que se vincule al CSIC mediante convenio u otro instrumento que así lo prevea.

Las personas interesadas pueden contactar con la Gerencia del IQOG (gerencia.iqog@csic.es) para obtener más información.

Las candidaturas deberán cumplir los requisitos establecidos en el punto 3.3.1, apartado a) y enviar su solicitud a la Gerencia del IQOG. La solicitud, acompañada de una carta de presentación, debe seguir el modelo I establecido por la Vicepresidencia de Organización y Relaciones Institucionales (VORI) que se anexa a este anuncio, y motivar su interés por la Dirección del instituto, destacando las cualidades adecuadas para el puesto, un currículum vitae completo, así como un proyecto de Dirección detallado (siguiendo el modelo II establecido por la VORI que se anexa a este anuncio) que considere el plan estratégico existente del instituto, actualizando el análisis realizado en el mismo y la propuesta de las acciones a realizar, recursos necesarios y objetivos, y en todo caso de acuerdo al punto 3.3.1, apartado d), de la resolución de 29 de noviembre de 2021 indicada.

Para el envío de propuestas, las personas candidatas con interés en el puesto deberán remitir la documentación requerida por correo electrónico a la Gerencia del IQOG (gerencia.iqog@csic.es), recibiendo acuse de recibo.

Un año más el IQOG participa en los actos programados para el Día Internacional de la Mujer y la Niña en la Ciencia
Investigadoras del Instituto acuden a centros educativos con motivo de la celebración del 11F, sumándose a la visibilización del papel de la mujer en la ciencia

Nuestras investigadoras Ana Gómez y Belén Gómara, acompañadas de Dianelis Toledo (del Instituto de Catálisis y Petroleoquímica del CSIC), visitaron varios institutos de Madrid con motivo del 11 de febrero, Día Internacional de la Mujer y la Niña en la Ciencia.

Los días 9 y 10 de febrero, las investigadoras estuvieron con los alumnos de 2º de bachillerato del IES Santamarca, y con los de 3º de la ESO del IES Joaquín Turina, compartiendo su experiencia profesional con la charla “Tres científicas del CSIC: de la universidad a liderar tu propio grupo de investigación”.
